To complement that idyllic beach life, there is Zanzibar’s thriving marine scene. With vibrant coral reefs and rich marine ecosystems, the waters of Zanzibar are more than perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling enthusiasts. Take a deep or shallow dive, whatever floats your boat, to see the amazing underwater world of corals, colourful fishes, turtles, dolphins, and even the elusive whale shark.
Mnemba Atoll, the largest island in Zanzibar, is a marine conservation area and also an incredibly popular spot for diving and snorkelling.
With beach fun all settled, we will now move to Zanzibar’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. The famous UNESCO World Heritage-listed Stone Town is located in the centre of Zanzibar City, the capital of Zanzibar. This historic “town” is truly worth a dekko. The labyrinthine alleyways of the Stone Town may be incredibly narrow, but here you will find several historic buildings and bustling markets.
Here you will get to see the beautiful architecture like that of the Sultan’s Palace, the Old Fort, and the House of Wonders, and even the Old Indian Dispensary. Each of these and more helps tell the story of Zanzibar
Any trip to Zanzibar is incomplete without taking the Spice Tour of the city. When you are in Zanzibar, remember that you are also in the land of aromatic spices, such as cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. The local markets are full of shops that sell these spices and then some more. And not just that, the shopkeepers are always more than happy to tell the tales of the iconic spice plantations and life back then when Zanzibar was an important part of the old Spice Route.
