ATTA explores partnerships with trade bodies in India to boost tourism to Africa

The Serengeti astounds visitors with its vast population of wildlife. You’ll find before you an epic land of sprawling fields rolling out past the horizon – so immense, it holds astonishing amounts of big game within its borders.

The African Travel and Tourism Association (ATTA) are keen to engage with stakeholders in the Indian market, and explore partnerships to drive tourism to Africa. ATTA is a non-profit association promoting tourism to Africa & Indian Ocean Islands.

“Our aim is the return of tourism to Africa from across the world. From India, our focus is to make connections and drive an increase airlift and overall leisure tourism to different destinations across the continent. We see the significant interest from the Indian market for destinations like South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, and our aim is to diversify leisure traffic to across the geographical expanse of the continent,” said Jon Danks, CEO, ATTA, during his recent visit to Mumbai.

He said that new air routes, and expansion of air capacity will drive demand from India. “We are keen to initiate discussions with Star Alliance partners like Air India to improve air access to Africa. We have a raft of MoUs with associations across the world to felicitate all round development of tourism to Africa, and are looking for similar engagements in India.”

As per the McKinsey report, India is poised to emerge as the third largest economy, and Danks says that the country ranks among the top destinations for travel across the tourism economies. “We are continually looking across the world where the ATTA footprint can support and drive our African members to collaborate with their counterparts.”
