DODOMA — Tanzanian Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism Angellah Kairuki said on Friday that the number of foreign tourist arrivals rose to 1,808,205 in 2023 from 1,454,920 in 2022, an increase of 24.3 percent.
Kairuki said that among UN Tourism’s best-performing destinations from January to December 2023, Tanzania ranked second in Africa and 12th in the world for attracting tourists after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earnings from the tourism industry increased from 2.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2022 to 3.4 billion dollars in 2023, Kairuki said.
“This is a huge achievement that we should feel proud of,” said the minister, revealing that Tanzania has earned 2.7 million dollars from tourist hunting concession fees in the last four months.
