On the morning of September 4, 2024, President Xi Jinping met with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is in China for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Noting that this year marks the 60th anniversary of China-Tanzania diplomatic relations, Xi Jinping said that China-Tanzania friendship is rooted in the solidarity between the elder generation of leaders of the two countries during the struggle for national liberation, developed through mutual respect and mutual trust in the pursuit of national rejuvenation, and strengthened as they march forward together on the path to modernization.

China is ready to work with Tanzania to comprehensively advance and deepen the China-Tanzania comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, so that China-Tanzania relations will bring more benefits to the two peoples and pass on the traditional friendship between the two countries from generation to generation.

The two sides should strengthen exchanges of experience in governance, enhance political and strategic mutual trust, and deepen mutually beneficial practical cooperation. China is ready to take this summit as an opportunity to push for new progress in the re-activation of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway, work together to improve the East African sea-rail combined transport network, and make Tanzania a demonstration zone for deepening China-Africa high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Xi Jinping stressed that it was in Tanzania that China’s Africa policy in the new era was first announced. Xi Jinping said that when he was in Tanzania in 2013, he announced the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith for China’s Africa policy.

In March this year, Chinese and African scholars jointly issued the Dar es Salaam Consensus in Tanzania, which embodies the consensus on the development path and vision of countries in the Global South. China-Tanzania relations are in line with the historical trend of the development and growth of the Global South, carrying significant conceptual value and playing a leading role.

China is ready to work with Tanzania to make China-Tanzania relations a model for China-Africa relations and Global South cooperation, and make greater contributions to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan said that she has a deep memory of her visit to China in 2022 and is pleased to come to China again to attend the FOCAC Beijing Summit. China has been actively implementing the outcomes of previous summits, and relevant cooperation has played an important role in promoting the economic and social development of African countries.

She expressed the belief that the Beijing Summit will make new contributions to deepening Africa-China friendly cooperation and vigorously advance industrialization and agricultural modernization in Africa. China is Tanzania’s reliable and indispensable partner.

The Revolutionary Party of Tanzania has a brotherly friendship with the Communist Party of China, and Tanzania is ready to make good use of the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School, deepen training on party building and exchange of experience on state governance with China, and constantly expand practical cooperation in various fields.

The Tanzanian side highly appreciates the Belt and Road Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping and is glad to witness the re-activation of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway during this visit. Tanzania is ready to actively work with China to advance Belt and Road cooperation and bring more tangible benefits to the people.
